PROPOSAL - SELIING PRODUCTS

WHEN TO USE THIS DOCUMENT

A proposal document is used by a business that is offering to sell items or products (goods, items) to a customer / client. In a proposal you set out what you are prepared to sell and at what price and on what terms (when etc). It does not matter what you are selling / supplying.

It can be used as a a form of quote.

The Proposal is the document that you will “customise” for each customer, because that is where you will insert details of exactly what you are offering to that particular customer (exactly what you are selling them, what the price will be, when it would be supplied).

It would normally be accompanied by your standard Terms and Conditions of business (what the customer needs to do, what happens if there’s a problem with the payment etc). However, if you want to vary your standard Terms and Conditions for a particular customer (for example, you want to give them more time to pay you), you can do this on your Proposal.

So the Proposal is used to set out exactly what you are offering before an order is placed by that customer/client so there are no misunderstandings about what is available and on offer. The customer accepts the Proposal when an order is placed.

This version is best used when you are not selling from a website only – if you are, please see our other documents.

WHAT DOES IT CONTAIN?

 This document contains the following:

  • Information that you MUST include.
  • Sections for you to customise so that you can describe exactly what you can supply and at what price and when payment must be made.
  • Time estimates.
  • How and when payment is to be made.
  • A schedule which will enable you to vary or add to your businesses usual terms and conditions.

It does not include the standard Terms and Conditions. If you have not already got these please see our other documents.

DO NOT USE THIS DOCUMENT

  • If you are not selling products by themselves – please see our other documents.

HOW TO USE THIS DOCUMENT

This is a MS Word document and is easy to use. The document uses blue text to provide extra guidance and notes and green text where you will customise your document to suit the circumstances in which it is used.
